Sand
I thought I'd start by writing verse
about something close at hand,
so I reached down and picked up
a single grain of sand
Let's see, what can be said
about this tiny bit of creation,
well, for one thing, there doesn't seem
to be a lot of variation
They seem to range from black
thru gray to white,
but that doesn't make any difference
especially late at night
And with a single grain
the oyster makes a pearl,
and with a string of these
you may get a girl
Nevertheless, undaunted by size
- with lofty goals to reach -
take this one plus a few gillion,
and you'll have yourself a beach
