The Empty Years

Oh, the empty years -
what value now, this life
how priceless it was
with you here as my wife

There would have been some hard times
of that I have no doubt
but it's dark threads in the cloth of life
that make the gold stand out

I love you still, I always will
but the days of life are hard
when the one you love is taken away
- in callous disregard -

So now I walk that lonely road
and swallow back the tears
for I must face the days alone throughout
- the empty years -
